Creating New Questions

Overview

The Questions section of Assess App is where all questions are created and stored. Here the user will see all of the questions within the banks that they have been provided access to. These questions are displayed in a table format:

Creating a new question:

When you click on Create New Question, the available Question types will be displayed as shown below:

Selecting the question type and then Next will navigate you to the question-building form, where the question information is entered. Each question type has its own unique fields to fill in. For example, the MCQ question form will appear as below:

Although each question type has different fields to fill in, the following are commonly found:

  1. Question Bank - The Bank the question will be stored in.
  2. Question Topic/Title - Used to enter a summary description of the question.
  3. Question Aims - Used to enter a description of the question. This field is for internal purposes only and is not seen by the candidate.
  4. Question Text/Stem - The question text should be entered in this field.
  5. Model Answer - Sample full-mark answers can be entered here and can be used for two purposes -
  1. They will appear to markers to help guide them when marking the candidate's answer.

  1. Add Image - Image can be added here if there is a requirement to add images.
  2. Marking Guide - Used to add answer keys in which marking is split into criteria. This information will appear to markers to help guide them when marking the candidate's answer.
  3. Tags - Any information that is to be tagged to the specified question will be entered here.

Choosing a workflow:

After you have built the question, the last step is to choose a workflow for the question:

You can read more on workflows in the Approval Workflow.

After the workflow is chosen, you then have two options to proceed:
  1. Save Draft - Which allows for continuing working on the question before submitting for approval
  2. Submit - Which pushes the question into the next step of its approval workflow. The exact wording of this option will change depending on the workflow you have chosen

Confirmation:
If you select the Save Draft option, you will be taken to a confirmation page showing the question was created in the system:

This will provide you with two final options:

  1. Edit this Question - Which takes you back to the question editing form to make further changes
  2. Go to Questions - Which takes you back to the Question Bank

If you navigate back to the Question Bank, you will see that your new question has appeared as the top of the list and has been assigned a question ID number:
